James Courtney scored a double in the British Formula 3 qualifying at Brands Hatch by heading the timesheets in both sessions and securing pole position for the opening two races of the British Formula Three season.

Courtney, now following in the footsteps of Takuma Sato at Carlin Motorsport, headed British driver Robbie Kerr by 0.333 seconds in each session. On a dry track in sunny conditions the Australian looked dominant and confident. He also topped the times at testing the previous day.

Stefano Fabi, son of Formula One driver Teo Fabi, qualified last out of the Championship Class drivers in both sessions. Alan van der Merwe, winner of the 2001 Formula Ford Festival, also struggled and finished 13th and 13th in each session respectively.

The top ten on the grid for race one is Courtney, Kerr, Jouanny, Judice, Taylor, Keohane, Austin, Bremer, Kovalainen and Antinucci. For race two the top qualifiers are Courtney, Kerr, Judice, Bremner, Taylor, Austin, Keohane, Jouanny, Antinucci and Kovalainen.

Race one will take place this afternoon, and race two will take place tomorrow afternoon between the British Touring Car Championship races. Conditions today at Brands Hatch are overcast with the threat of rain.
