A damaged wheel scuppers Atte's hopes of a place on the podium

Raikkonen Robertson Racing's (Double R) F3 driver Atte Mustonen finished fourth in Monday's second leg of the British F3 round at Rockingham.

Sunday's qualifying sessions were held in torrential rain on a very wet track. Atte ended up in the gravel after one overtaking attempt, causing the marshalls to bring out the red flags. All of which put paid to Atte's hopes of a decent position on the starting grid. Atte qualified fifth fastest, pole position being taken by Jaime Alguersuari/Carlin Motorsport, second by Sebastian Hohenthal/Fortec Motorsport and third by Oliver Turvey/Carlin Motorsport.

Monday's evening race didn't go according to plan for Atte. On only the first lap one of his car's wheels broke, which meant Atte had to spend the rest of the race concentrating on bringing the car over the line in one piece; no easy feat on such a challenging wet track. Atte eventually finished fourth. Fortec's Sebastian Hohenthal was first to see the chequered flag, with Carlin's Jaime Alguersuari second and Hitech's Max Chilton third.

"After the wheel broke there was nothing else I could do than to get the car back home and finish in as good a position as possible. That's racing," said Atte on Monday evening of the Rockingham weekend.

The next meeting will be on 8.6. at Snetterton. Mustonen is currently second in the championship race on 78 points, just behind Sergio Perez on 88 points.
