Twenty year old American Charlie Kimball has signed to compete with Carlin Motorsport in the 2005 British Formula 3 International Championship. Kimball completes the driver line-up for the double championship winning team and both parties are looking to continue their heritage of success. Kimball plans to build on a successful season in the British Formula Ford Championship where he notched up two wins and three poles, and Carlin is keen as ever to repeat their Championship winning form of 2001 and 2003.
Carlin team principal, Trevor Carlin said, "Charlie is a nice kid and will bring a lot to the team. All our drivers are inexperienced but so is most of the grid. This will be the year of the rookie."
Kimball visited the team in Aldershot, England, on Thursday February 17th for a seat fitting in preparation for his first test on February 22nd. "I'm really looking forward to this step up -- I've done quite a lot of F3 testing in the off season so I know the old car and now my team mates and I have the responsibility of giving useful feedback to the Carlin engineers in the new 2005 Dallara," said Kimball. "I am really excited about this season- I know the tracks and the racing, and relish the technical challenge of Formula Three."
