Charlie Hollings signs with Promatecme UK
Highly rated Formula Renault graduate Charlie Hollings will compete in a Lola-Dome chassis for Promatecme UK in this seasons British Formula 3 national class it was announced today.
The 24 year old has signed for the Silverstone based team to race the car that took Danny Watts to 6th place in last years series, including a famous win at Castle Combe last summer.
The Yorkshireman has instantly targeted class wins and a championship challenge with the experienced Chris Weller managed squad and is excited by the prospect of driving the distinctive Neil Brown prepared Mugen-Honda engined car.
"I am so pleased to have signed for Promatecme as they have such a successful history and a strong engineering reputation in F3," said Hollings.
"I had a promising year in Formula Renault last season in what was acknowledged as one of its most competitive seasons, so I am well up for the fight in what I view as a very important year in my career, one in which I fully intend to challenge strongly for the title. I was very impressed with what the Lola did last year considering it was the only chassis fighting the Dallaras and I believe that I can continue this cars run of top results."
Hollings comes to Formula Three after a run of podium finishes in last years British Formula Renault Championship with Fortec Motorsport. A close 2nd place to eventual champion Mike Conway at Croft was followed by 3rd placed finishes at acknowledged drivers circuits Oulton Park and Brands Hatch. Charlie's talent and analytical approach impressed Chris Weller who has watched Charlie's career with interest during an end of season test in the Lola at Donington last November.
" I was impressed by Charlie in his first F3 test last year," said the man who in the recent past has run F1 drivers Jenson Button and Enrique Bernoldi in British F3. " He was not only quick but also very methodical in his approach to feedback and improving the car lap after lap. Both of these attributes will stand him in good stead throughout the season. We are not only delighted that Charlie has joined Promatecme but that we are also running the Lola again which has already proved to be a winning car."
Charlie can also count on good wishes for his first foray in to F3 from former housemate Darren Manning who also competed in Lola's during his days racing F3000 and Champ Car. Both Yorkshiremen are childhood friends with the Chip Ganassi IRL driver, giving tips and advice to his mate as he strives to follow in his footsteps up the single seater ladder.
The Avon Tyres British Formula Three Championship kicks off on April 3rd at Donington Park but pre-season testing begins apace atSnettertonthisTuesday.
