ANOTHER GREAT RESULT FOR PEREZ
Bucharest, Romania -- 21 May 2007: T-Sport driver, Sergio Perez, added another victory to his championship tally at Bucharest yesterday. The win came after a second-placed finish during Saturday's race and showed the fantastic pace the Mexican had around the tight streets of Bucharest. Rodolfo Gonzalez had a harder time in Romania. He took a top ten finish in race one and finished fifth in race two, but he was punished by the stewards for some defensive driving; the five-second penalty he received pushed his good final result down to tenth.
Sergio was straight on the pace in qualifying, producing some great lap times. He had the pace for pole in the first session but he had no luck with traffic and had to settle for third. The second session started with a wet track. Sergio was flying, running in the top three overall at one point. He had a bit of a moment in the middle of the session when (Hamad) Al Fardon launched him as Sergio went through and he had to dive into the pits for some fast suspension repairs. Sergio took it all in his stride and went back out and took pole position and a fantastic eighth place overall.
Rodolfo didn't quite get to grips with the tight circuit in the first qualifying session but managed to take 12th place in the second session as he became more comfortable with the track.
Race one had to be started behind the safety car as the previous GT session had seen a lot of off-track action and it was deemed to be safer to start this way. With a rolling start there are fewer opportunities to make up places but Rodolfo did a good job and progressively made his way all the way though from 16th to 10th place by the chequered flag. Sergio took second at the beginning then chased (Michael) Meadows before finishing in second position.
Race two saw Sergio take a good win from pole position whilst Rodolfo was right in the thick of the action but almost too much so. A post-race penalty from the Clerk of the Course put him down to tenth place in the results.
"They were good results again for Sergio", said T-Sport Team Principal, Russell Eacott. "It's unfortunate that Rodolfo's race two result has been affected by the officials but once again his race pace has been good. We need to work hard now and improve in qualifying."
The next event for T-Sport is at Snetterton in two weeks' time (2/3 June 2007).
