Bahrain's F3 Driver Ready for Bucharest Challenge

16/05/07, London: This weekend will see Bucharest play host the first overseas race of the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series. For the first time in the championship's history rounds 5 and 6 will take place over a stunning street circuit with the Palace of the Parliament, one of the world's largest buildings, as the backdrop.

The event sponsored by Vodafone, also marks the furthest that the British F3 grid has travelled in the 43-year history of the championship.

As the event is a first for the city none of the F3 drivers have raced on the Romanian circuit and Hamad Al Fardan, who is currently 9th in the National Class with eight points, will be hoping to use this to his advantage and put pressure on his championship rivals.

Commenting on the race ahead he said: "I can't wait for Bucharest and I really hope to do well. It's a level playing field in terms of circuit experience so everybody will start the weekend in the same position. This will be the first time in my career that I have raced on a street circuit but I feel very confident and ready. I have spent a lot of time in Bahrain training and preparing myself."

Despite not having the best start of the year at Oulton Park, the opening round of the British F3 Series, things definitely improved for Hamad at Donington Park. In race one Hamad drove a solid race finishing in 6th place and winning his first points of the season. But it was in race two that Hamad really shone; he started from the back of the grid and within the first few laps was up to an impressive 4th place. Hamad eventually finished 9th after being involved in an incident mid way through the race.

Before returning to racing this weekend the F3 teams were back out on track for an official test at Snetterton earlier this month. Hamad once again showed his driving talent over the two day test topping the National Class time sheet on day one. The GFH backed driver posted a time of 1:02.896 around the 1.9 mile track, with an average speed of 111.71mph, just 1.654 seconds behind the quickest Championship Class driver, Raikkonen Robertson Racing's Stephen Jelley. On day two Hamad clocked the second quickest time of the morning session just behind his Performance Racing team-mate Frankie Cheng.

Round 5 of the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series is due to start at 11.55 on Saturday 19th May, with round 6 getting underway on Sunday 20th May at 10.45.
