Brands winner Harvey hopes for more in Germany
‘A step into the unknown’ - that’s how title protagonist Jack Harvey describes the weekend ahead of him in Germany, as the cream of British Formula 3 heads to the Norisring street track in Nuremberg to do battle with the Formula 3 Euro Series regulars.

None of the 14 contenders from the British championship has any experience of the Norisring and that, says Harvey - a double winner last weekend at Brands Hatch - will ensure a level playing field.
“I think the Norisring will be quite a leveller,” said the 19-year-old Racing Steps Foundation driver. “Nobody has really been there before, and it looks like there will be quite a lot of cars on the grid. It will be exciting, but equally it will stepping into the unknown a little. I wouldn’t really say that I am looking forward to it, or not looking forward to it.”
Harvey is hopeful that he can repeat the form which has brought him four race wins this season and to within seven points of the championship leader, his Carlin team-mate Jazeman Jaafar. He’s conscious of the fact that while he will be up against the leading Euro Series teams and drivers, his chief target will be to emerge on top of the British series field. “You always want to try to win the race, of course, but if you finish third and win the British you will still see that as a win really. The team has been to the Norisring before and hopefully we can make the most of that knowledge, and Carlin have gone well this year in Europe, so we are going there with high expectations of doing well.”
Harvey’s regular Carlin running mates: Jaafar, Carlos Sainz, Pietro Fantin and Harry Tincknell will be making the trip to Germany, as will the four-man Fortec Motorsport squad, fresh from a 1-2 result for Pipo Derani and Felix Serralles in the Brands Hatch reverse-grid race. They will be joined at the Norisring by Alex Lynn and Hannes van Asseldonk.
T-Sport will be hoping to build on the promising results scored at Brands Hatch in the International class by Nick McBride, and to returning Spike Goddard to the top of the National class podium. Double R will field its three regulars - Geoff Uhrhane and Brands race leader Fahmi Ilyas, plus Duvashen Padayachee in the National class.
Motorsporting events have taken place at the Norisring since 1947. It is a highlight of the German touring car championship season, attracting crowds in excess of 100,000.
