Ralt F3 car's debut at Brands Hatch.

The all-new Ralt F3 car had its first outing at Easter with Team Avanti's Matthew Gilmore demonstrating the car's potential in the opening rounds of the BRDC British F3 Championship at Brands Hatch.

The first of the two rounds on Sunday was a good start to the season with Matthew qualifying the Ralt F302 Mugen-Honda 20th on the 34 car grid. He made a cautious start, but then proceeded to overtake other competitors during the 15 lap race to finish 13th. He set tenth fastest lap in the race with a time that was over half a second quicker than his qualifying time.

"I was delighted with the way the car handled and have to admit the more laps I did round Brands Hatch, which is not a circuit I know well, the happier I felt. Everything was new to us at the start of the weekend and I think this is a positive start to our season," said Matthew.

Unfortunately the second race on Monday was not to prove so successful, with a suspension problem causing Matthew to retire three laps from the end of the 20-lap race. Despite going fractionally quicker in the second qualifying session Matthew was 21st on the grid, but had worked his way up to 17th when forced to retire.

"We were disappointed not to finish both races, but were encouraged by the car's performance. We have the experience of the first race under our belts and know the direction we need to go to improve for the next race," said Team Avanti boss, Nigel Clyde.

The next two rounds of the Championship are on the 13th and 14th April at Donington Park.
