Canadian Daniel Di Leo looks forward to hometown event
"Di Leo will have plenty of pressure this weekend at the Molson Indy Toronto"
TORONTO, ONTARIO (July 10, 2003) Markham, Ontario resident Daniel Di Leo (Di Leo Auto Sports / Select Auto Collision) heads to the temporary road course for the 18th annual Molson Indy Toronto this weekend to compete in round #7 of the Barber Dodge Pro Series (BDPS). Di Leo, who is coming off a strong second place finish last weekend at the Cleveland Grand Prix, will look to garner his second career BDPS victory on home turf. Daniel will carry the Canadian flag proud this weekend in the first event north of the border this season
Di Leo, a former multiple karting champion and a graduate of the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship series will have plenty of pressure on his shoulders this coming weekend as several of his friends and family members will make the short trip to Toronto to pledge their support. "I am really looking forward to this event" explained Di Leo, "I have done a lot of promo work this week and I hope that it will pay off with my second win." With all the promotional work taking place throughout the week leading up to the Indy, Daniel still found time to participate in a photo shoot and can be seen in several different autograph sessions this weekend in the Molson Indy's Motorfest. Though he has been very busy off the track, Di Leo remains focused on the task at hand but is also extending his sights onwards into next season. Daniel is searching for the necessary funds to take the step up the ladder into the final series before Champ Car. "My goal is to do the best I can every weekend and get the most I can out of my car. I want to be the next Canadian Champ Car star."
With only one finish outside the top five, Di Leo has shown the consistency that is needed to win championships. "I would like to win every race I enter but, if that is not possible, championship points are what I am aiming for." Due to last weekend's podium finish, Di Leo finds himself sitting in a solid 2nd place for the prestigious BDPS championship. Daniel will show his grit and determination this coming weekend as he will be looking to score points towards the recently announced Trans-Canada Dodge Championship that will see the champion collect $28,000 to be put towards racing in the Canadian BDPS events next year.
Also, look for a Di Leo to be the lead story in the upcoming FormulaCar Magazine which will be available at this weekend's Champ Car event.
Daniel will hit the track on Friday July 11 at 8:00am for his first practice session of the weekend and he will look to put his Select Auto Collision Dodge race car on the provisional pole in first round qualifying at 3:00pm.
