"After obtaining his first career BDPS victory last weekend, Daniel looks to Portland for the same success"
TORONTO, ONTARIO (June 19, 2003) 21-year-old Daniel Di Leo (Di Leo Auto Sports/Select Auto Collision) garnered his first career Barber Dodge Pro Series (BDPS) victory last weekend at the famed Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. For a driver to gather his first pro victory at such a daunting track is a great accomplishment and now Di Leo heads to Portland, OR full of race winning confidence.
Di Leo, a former multiple karting champion is now focused on round #5 that takes place this coming weekend June 20 - 22 at Portland International Raceway. As the battle for the championship heats up, Daniel is focused but is also extending his sights onwards and into 2004 where he looks to take the next step in his racing career and break on to the Toyota Atlantic scene.
"I am extremely excited and looking forward to this weekend and the rest of the year," explained the Markham, Ontario resident. "I finally get to go back to the track where I had my best finish last year." Di Leo is referring to the great drive that he had at PIR last season, which saw him come from 5th on the starting grid to finish a strong second behind current Toyota Atlantic points leader AJ Almendinger.
With his win last weekend, Daniel improved on his standings in the points chase as he closed the gap between himself and the series leader. Di Leo sits in a strong 3rd, a mere two points out of second and fourteen points out of 1st for the prestigious Barber Dodge championship. Di Leo will again show his grit and determination this coming weekend as he will be looking to extend his winning streak and gain some valuable points heading into the second half of the season.
Daniel will hit the track on Friday June 20 at 8:00am for his first practice session of the weekend and he will look to put his Select Auto Collision Dodge race car on the provisional pole in first round qualifying at 1:00 pm.
