Di Leo grabs provisional pole after Fridays qualifying
(Toronto, Ontario) After arriving in Monterey, CA yesterday afternoon the 21-year-old Daniel Di Leo (Daniel Di Leo Auto Sports/Select Auto Collision) had an itch to hit the track. The goal was to get a healthy dinner and a good nights rest to prepare for what would be an early Friday morning.
Di Leo showed his poise and competitive experience when the first practice session rolled to grid Friday morning. He hit the track and immediately was recognized as the man to beat. Using his experience in both the Formula Dodge National Championship and the Barber Dodge Pro Series (BDPS) events that he has competed in at Laguna Seca, Di Leo lapped the 11 turn famed circuit at 1:28.071 for the quickest time of the session. He was nearly 8 tenths of a second faster then series point leader Leonardo Maia. "I have been looking forward to this event for weeks now, I love this track and everything seems to be going as planned" stated Di Leo after his morning session.
After exiting practice with the quickest time, the Markham, Ontario resident was focused on qualifying. Daniel hit the track and again his experience showed. After Maia took the early pole, Di Leo stole it back with a blistering lap under the 1:27.00 minute barrier. He then turned up the wick and secured pole with a final lap of 1:26.812. "I am very happy with the result and now I will focus on tomorrow. I am going to take this weekend one day at a time and try to come home with a win."
While being in the hunt all season, Daniel finds himself sitting a strong third in the points race. With three top 10 finishes Di Leo is proving to be extremely strong at Laguna as he searches for his first career BDPS win.
