SIKESTON, Mo. (Dec. 5, 2000) NASCAR Winston West Series driver Sammy Potashnick has announced his SP Racing team's No. 65 Chevrolet Monte Carlos will be sponsored by Lucas Oil Products for the 2001 season.
Potashnick, who finished the 2000 season driving his own cars after a mid-season team switch, finished 11th in the NASCAR Winston West Series point standings behind champion Brendan Gaughan.
"I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Lucas Oil for the upcoming year," Potashnick said. "They're a very established company who has been involved in racing for years. The people at Lucas Oil are genuinely confident in their products and I couldn't be happier to be running Lucas racing products in my race cars next year.
Lucas Oil Products, which has a lengthy history of racing car and truck sponsorships as well as event sponsorships, produces heavy duty lubricants and additives for the commercial trucking and agricultural markets as well as the consumer automotive market.
"My team and I feel extremely confident that we'll be able to turn out positive results," Potashnick said, "and be a championship contender with the support we'll be getting from Lucas Oil."
The first race of the season will be held Feb. 4 at Phoenix International Raceway. Potashnick earned a third-place finish at Phoenix last year, when he scored two top-5 and four top-10 finishes in 12 starts.
