FORT WORTH, Texas (May 21, 2008) The following is a statement from Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage regarding the news that Lowe's Motor Speedway President/General Manager H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler will be retiring after hosting this weekend's Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. Gossage worked for Wheeler from 1989 to 1995 as the speedway's vice president of public relations before leaving to build Texas Motor Speedway and move into the position he holds today.

"I'm surprised to hear the news because I envisioned Humpy running Lowe's Motor Speedway another 20 years. I could see him sitting in a wheelchair with a blanket across his lap by the driver introduction stage giving drivers his advice, seeing old friends and calling the shots. He is such a force, such a creative energy that has played a vital role in shaping the sport we enjoy today. People that don't even know his name became NASCAR fans solely due to Humpy's creative promotions. I know that I am a far better promoter as a result of being a graduate of `Humpy University.'"
