Tires.com sponsors ASAs return to Berlin

PENDLETON, Ind. (May 29, 2001) -- Officials from the American Speed Association, BFGoodrich Tires and Discount Tires along with their e-commerce website, tires.com, have announced entitlement sponsorship of a second event in the 2001 ASA ACDelco Series, as ASA returns to Berlin Speedway in Marne, Michigan on Saturday, July 14th. The Tires.com 300 presented by BFGoodrich Tires will be the 12th of 20 events on the 2001 ASA schedule. The Tires.com 300 presented by BFGoodrich Tires will also mark a milestone in the series' 34-year history, as the race will be the ASA's 500th national event.

Discount Tire Company, whose home offices are based in Scottsdale, AZ, used their subsidiary America's Tire Company and their e-commerce site "tires.com" to sponsor ASA's first trip to the West Coast, at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, CA. The response w as so positive from all those involved, a second event sponsorship was eminent.

"This is our company's second ASA race sponsorship this year, and we're excited about the interest and fun that surrounds it," said Rob Wise, Assistant Vice President of Marketing for Discount Tire Co. "Many of our employees will be involved in the race, i ncluding the flagman, starter and pitcrew representatives. Discount Tire locations are scattered throughout the United States, and America's Tire locations are centered on the West Coast. Together, the more than 450 outlets are direct suppliers of BFGoodrich Tires.

The series will be making its 36th appearance to the legendary .438-mile oval, one of the fan favorite tracks that has become synonymous with ASA Racing. Berlin has seen its share of legendary ASA events. Berlin hosted two ASA events every year from 1983 through 1999, except in 1987. Several legends have picked up victories there, none more than Mike Eddy, who has 11 career ASA wins at the facility. Bob Senneker has seven, hometown driver Johnny Benson Jr. has four and Butch Miller has three. Jay Sauter and Dennis Lampman have both picked up their first and only career victories at the track, with Mike Miller winning the last two ASA events there, in June and August of 1999.
