FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Nov. 10, 2000) - Race fans were already racing to Texas Motor Speedway to get in line to buy individual tickets for 2001. Tickets for the seven major 2001 race events go on sale Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Although most fans traditionally start arriving Friday afternoon to line up, one local fan got the jump on everyone. John Petty of Flower Mound, Texas arrived in his RV at 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening to be first in line.

"I drove up here after work," said Petty. "I know the NASCAR Winston Cup tickets are going to go fast. I'm buying for my family and friends and I didn't want to miss out.

"We come to the races here every year. We enjoy camping out with friends at all the different events. Texas Motor Speedway is really a great place for race fans."

Over the past seasons, as many as 1,500 fans have greeted the day's sunrise with the lines growing until the ticket sale began. The speedway will sell the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series tickets out of three large souvenir trailers set up in the ticket office parking lot. Tickets for the five other major race events - two Indy Racing Northern Light Series races, two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events and one CART FedEx Championship Series race - will be sold inside the ticket office.

Fans will be treated to complimentary coffee and danish while they wait.

Texas Motor Speedway's ticket office will open one hour early each day over the weekend -- Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday, noon-5 p.m. Weekday hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the speedway, by calling the speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, at all Texas Ticketmaster locations or through Ticketmaster phone or on-line services.
