FORT WORTH-DALLAS (August 14, 2001) - Texas Motor Speedway today announced it's 2002 season schedule which features a NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series weekend, two Indy Racing League and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events, two weekends of Pennzoil World of Outlaws racing and a season finale return of the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals.

"We are proud to offer up another great season of racing," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "There are obviously some changes from the schedule we had in 2001, but this is a strong line-up and one the fans have told us they like. We listened to everything they had to say and honed in on what they wanted. What you see on this schedule are the series they want and will support."

The 2002 schedule does not include CART or American Le Mans Series events.

"We do not have a CART race on our 2002 schedule," said Gossage. "As you all know, we are in the midst of a lawsuit with CART as a result of their cancellation of a race here in April. We are currently in the process of discussing the issues with CART and would hope that they can settle the issues without us proceeding to trial."

Speedway officials continue to hold discussions with the American Le Mans Series and have not scheduled a date at this time. The speedway is working amicably with the ALMS to meet their needs. The Panoz Driving School has just moved into permanent shops at Texas Motor Speedway and continues to hold driving schools on the infield road course.

Also of note, with Easter falling on the first weekend of April - the traditional date for the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch weekend in Texas - the races will move up to March 16-17.

Season tickets for the 2002 season will go on sale Monday, August 20. As always, Season Ticket Holders are guaranteed seats for all races on the 1.5-mile superspeedway as well as a number of perks including a special party during NASCAR Winston Cup week in 2002.

"We're going to have an event for our Season Ticket Holders called 'Fandango' on March 14," said Gossage. "The event will feature Michael Waltrip, Ken Schrader and Tony Stewart sharing stories and answering questions from the audience. There will also be some incredible prizes and surprises for the Season Ticket Holders as well at this event. It's just another way for us to say thanks and let them know how much we appreciate them."

Re-paving on the superspeedway continues on schedule and should be completed shortly. It was also announced that the new Earnhardt Way speedway interchange on I-35W will be open for the Chevy 500 race weekend.
