Five live races complement consistent programming time
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 10, 2002) - Speed Channel will broadcast the entire 2002 Rolex Sports Car Series season, including five live broadcasts. The remaining five races will become part of Grand American Road Racing's consistent time slot on Speed Channel of Saturday evenings at 5 p.m. ET.
Live coverage of the 2002 season will kickoff at the 40th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, with Speed Channel broadcasting from Daytona International Speedway beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 2. The coverage will include the 1 p.m. green flag and continue until 7 p.m. Speed Channel will pick back up with the racing action at 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 3, and will follow the race through the checkered flag and victory lane celebration.
Race fans will also be able to watch rounds two and three of the Rolex Series live on Speed Channel. The second stop of the series will take teams southward to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Nextel 250, part of the 20th Anniversary of the Grand Prix of Miami, on Saturday, March 2. Speed Channel will next follow the Rolex Series out west to Fontana, where it will provide live coverage of the first-ever road race at California Speedway on Sunday, March 23.
The fourth live race of the season will be at the revitalization of the Paul Revere 250 at Daytona International Speedway on the Fourth of July. The fifth live broadcast will come from the historic Watkins Glen International road course with the Bully Hill Vineyards 250, August 9.
Speed Channel's coverage of the remaining five races will include two-hour highlight shows that will air on the Saturday immediately following the race at 5 p.m. ET. Those races include the Sun Automotive 200 from Phoenix International Raceway airing Saturday, April 27, the Six Hours of The Glen airing Saturday, June 29, the six-hour race from Virginia International Raceway airing Saturday, September 7, the 1000K race from Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant airing September 21 and the Grand-Am Finale from Daytona International Speedway airing November 16.
Speed Channel will replace the current Speedvision cable network on February 11. Speed Channel is the only 24-hour cable network devoted to the millions of people who love cars, boats, airplanes and motorcycles. The network features authentic coverage of major events, in addition to the latest industry and consumer news.
The 40th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona will kick off the 2002 Rolex Sports Car Series season, as well as SpeedWeeks at Daytona International Speedway.
