TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA (March 26, 2001) -- CARQUEST Auto Parts is proud to announce it will be continuing its support of the CASCAR Sportsman Series in 2001 as the series sponsor. Along with sponsoring the series, CARQUEST will be event sponsor for two events, the CARQUEST 150 at Autodrome St-Eustache and the CARQUEST 150 at Capital City Speedway, and presenting sponsor of the Budweiser 150 presented by CARQUEST, Labour Day Weekend at Delaware Speedway Park near London, Ontario. CARQUEST will also sponsor a team competing in the series with driver Andre Coursol.
"Our involvement with CASCAR throughout the years has been tremendous," said Michel Rondeau, CARQUEST Canada Director of Marketing. "This season we are shifting our focus from the national series event at Delaware to strengthening our position with the Sportsman Series, the grassroots of oval-track motorsports in Canada."
The series, which originated last season, will be much like last year – combining more than 70 teams among three different race tracks. Each track will host five 100-lap races and one 150-lap race. To qualify a team must race in the 150-lap race at each of the three tracks. The points from those three races plus the top 5 finishes in the 100 lap races determine the point total. A team can race in as many 100 lap races as they want. Each event is time trial qualifying with a roll of the dice to determine the first 12 positions on the starting grid.
