Rovn Named Director of Sales and Marketing at PIR
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Bryan R. Sperber, President of Phoenix International Raceway, announced this afternoon that Scott Rovn has been named Director of Sales and Marketing effective immediately. Rovn (pronounced Rown) replaces Greg Walaitis who accepted a position with the athletic department at Fresno State University.
"Everyone in our organization is excited about Scott joining the Phoenix International Raceway team," said Sperber. "I have known Scott for many years, and he brings numerous qualities to this position, as well as vast experiences in motorsport marketing, sales and public relations. It is these qualities and experiences that make him the perfect choice to lead our staff as we enter one of the most exciting times in the history of our company."
Rovn comes to PIR after spending the past six years as the Senior Director of Marketing and Sales at Watkins Glen (NY) International, and Nazareth Speedway (PA). His successful efforts were seen in a wide variety of racing series, including NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, Indy Racing League, NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Grand American Rolex Series and vintage sports car racing. During his time with The Glen and Nazareth, Rovn helped promote every major form of motorsports in the U.S.
"I'm excited about this opportunity to join the PIR team, especially at a time when the Southwest has been nationally recognized as a major point of emphasis by the leaders of NASCAR," expressed Rovn. "The recent announcement that PIR will now host two annual stops for the stars of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series only serves to enhance PIR's premier position as a leader in motorsports entertainment in the Southwest, and I'm certainly looking forward to working with an already great group of people to continue providing our fans with a fantastic racing experience."
Before working with Watkins Glen International, Rovn handled the motorsports program for Straight Arrow products in the early nineties and then handled sales & marketing for Marketing Specialities, a company based in St. Augustine, FL that specialized in taking new products to market.
A 1992 graduate of Minnesota State University, Rovn and his wife, Michelle, currently have one child, August, who is two years old.
