TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 17, 2004) -- Sports Car Club of America, Inc. has named Terry Ozment, of Naperville, Ill., its new Director of Club Racing. Ozment replaces Phil Clarke, who left the company at the end of July.
A former Regional Executive of Chicago Region SCCA, Ozment joins the SCCA® National Staff after 30 years in sales and marketing for AT&T.
"Terry brings a wealth of experience on both the corporate and SCCA membership side to our staff," SCCA President and CEO Steve Johnson said. "She has been an integral part of one of the largest, most active SCCA regions for many years, and understands not only the challenges, but the potential successes that our regions face with their Club Racing programs. Her experience as a volunteer worker and official help her understand what our members and customers expect and need from an organization like SCCA."
"SCCA has been a part of my life for 25 years, and while I've seen a lot of changes in the technology we use and the cars that are raced, one thing has remained constant; the passion and commitment of our members to the SCCA," Ozment said. "I am excited about the opportunity to work with a talented staff that is equally committed to the successful future of our club. I want to build on the work that was started by my predecessors and I hope that our membership will continue to provide constructive input. I believe that, together, we will continue to improve both our racing programs and the benefits that our membership receives, while keeping the SCCA a leader in our sport."
Ozment has been an active SCCA member since 1981, holding licenses in Flagging & Communications, Race Control, Registration and Timing & Scoring. A member of the Race Stewards program for the last 10 years, she has served as the Chief Steward for the June Sprints®, traditionally the largest SCCA Club Racing National event. A former member of the Chicago Region and Land O' Lakes Region Boards, Ozment has also served as the Regional Executive of the Chicago Region, as well as providing key support in that region's sponsorship and marketing efforts.
A graduate of Saint Cloud State University, Saint Cloud, Minn., Ozment has been a career AT&T employee from her high school days through the present. She and husband Ed, also an active SCCA member, will relocate to the Topeka, Kan. area.
Ozment will officially start September 1, just prior to the department's largest event, the SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Kohler at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, held Sept. 20-26.
