Sunoco Renews With Powell Motorsport For Fifth Consecutive Season

TORONTO (October 25, 2001) -- The Powell Motorsport team will race again with Sunoco Ultra 94 sponsorship in 2002. Sunoco and Powell Motorsport today announced a multi-year renewal of their sponsorship for a fifth consecutive year.

"We're excited to be associated with Powell Motorsport," said Sunoco's director of marketing Steve Douglas. "Powell Motorsport's performance -- a soon-to-be four championships in five years -- continues to be a perfect match for Sunoco's performance products like our Ultra 94 gasoline."

"For 2002, Powell Motorsport will again race in the Grand Am Cup with drivers continuing to be Ontario's Devon Powell and Michigan's Doug Goad. The familiar millenium yellow Powell Corvette Z06s will identify both Sunoco Ultra 94 fuel and U.S. sponsor and partner Encompass Corporation."

"Rollie Stephenson, Midwest President for Encompass Corporation, an electrical services facilities provider, is equally enthusiastic about Encompass's sponsorship and we are delighted to have him continue with the team."

Team owner John Powell said that Rollie provided one of the Powell team cars. His Corvette Z06 raced at Road America in Wisconsin and is entered at the finale in Daytona November 2.

"I like the Powell team," said Stephenson. "They are professional, dedicated, and simply good folks to be with. I respect Doug Goad's driving experience and technical input in future projects. I am interested as well in helping Devon Powell as he grows his racing future. Of course, racing Corvettes is great, part of a legend in American Sports Cars."

The Powell team will also explore other 2002 opportunities in road racing. One such opportunity is a proposal to develop and build a GT category Corvette, for Grand Am Rolex Sports Car racing. Doug Goad and partners Dan Van Auken and Jeff Beitzel will work with the Powell team on a feasibility study for GT.

"It's great to be back," said Doug Goad. "I love street stock racing, and winning championships. This year, the Sunoco/Encompass Corvette is working well, working fast and winning races against lots of Porsches and Saleen Mustangs! I really like the new Grand Am Cup race series and I'm glad to be back with Devon and the whole Powell team. Life is good!"

The final race in the 2001 Grand Am cup, North America's Street stock endurance series, is scheduled November 2. The Powell team is at the top of the Grand Am Cup driver's, team and manufacturer's points tables. The Powell Motorsport team races with Sunoco Ultra94 ethanol enhanced gasoline, available throughout Ontario, Canada - the highest octane on the street. We also race with the sponsorship of Encompass Services Corporation. Encompass provides mechanical, electrical and/or janitorial services in each of the 100 largest U.S. markets and employs over 30,000 staff at 250 locations. Encompass is the largest provider of facilities systems and solutions in the United States. Sunoco is a subsidiary of Suncor Energy, a Canadian integrated energy company.
