Acura Sports Car Driver Will Nonnamaker Becomes First Road Racer In RASR
Racer's Against Street Racing announced that Will Nonnamaker will become the newest member of the coalition's All-Star Driver Team. Nonnamaker is the first professional road racing member of RASR, which includes import drag racers Stephen Papadakis (Honda Civic), Adam Saruwatari (Acura NSX) and Ed Bergenholtz (Honda Civic).
"We are excited to be able to expand the message to the road racing fans," said Jon Fitzsimmons, spokesman for Racers Against Street Racing. "Will Nonnamaker brings over 10 years of road racing experience and many professional championships to our RASR line-up. I am looking forward to working with him in 2002 to further educate people about safe and legal racing alternatives."
Will was able to provide a brief statement during a break in action from testing his Comptech Sport Acura Integra GS-R at Daytona in September in preperations for the upcoming season Grand Am Cup finale at Daytona International Speedway. Currently, Will leads the Grand Am Cup Compact Class championship by 18 points.
"I feel very privileged to be the first Road Racing driver to become a part of the RASR driver line-up. The Sport Compact scene continues to grow throughout the country. It is crucial that we educate people about safe alternatives to illegal street racing, such as the illegal racing portrayed in "The Fast and the Furious". I hope that through my involvement as a RASR team member, more enthusiasts will become aware of inexpensive sanctioned events such as SCCA SOLO "pylon" Time Trial events."
Racers Against Street Racing (RASR) is a coalition of auto manufacturers, aftermarket parts companies, professional drag and road racers, sanctioning bodies, and automotive magazines devoted to promoting safe and legal alternatives to illegal street racing on a national level. RASR is part of the Specialty Equipment Market Association. The message for RASR is simple: COMPETITION BELONGS ON A RACETRACK.
