SBRS: Movin on up

For over 25 years Skip Barber has churned out thousands upon thousands of graduates from its racing and driving programs. Many have gone onto successful careers as professional drivers with quite a few of them gracing the CART Champ Car field. Gone with them are the literally hundreds of Skip Barber Trained mechanics that keep the cars in race ready shape in CART, NASCAR, and the IRNLS. Today Skip Barber graduates another member of its family into the Champ Car ranks. Like George Jefferson, Marketing Department member Matt Cleary is "movin' on up" though he goes west to Indianapolis with the Pac West Racing Group, taking over the sponsor relations duties.

Cleary has been with Skip Barber for over three years as Corporate Sales Manager at Lime Rock Park. In that time, Cleary was successful in negotiating numerous revenue generating deals for the track. Most recently, major sponsorship has come in the form of Mohegan Sun, a Connecticut shoreline gaming casino and resort that began its relationship with the venerable Lime Rock track last fall in conjunction with the NASCAR Busch North Series Dodge Dealers 200 Presented by Burnham Boilers. Cleary also brokered a sponsorship deal with e-tailer eClassics.com for the Lime Rock Park Fall Vintage Festival held on Labor Day weekend.

Pac West has long been considered one of the most forward thinking teams in the Champ Car paddock in terms of its marketing strategy. Pac West fields cars for Mauricio Gugelmin and Scott Dixon in the FedEx Championship Series and a full time car for Skip Barber Trained Daniel Wheldon in Dayton Indy Lights Competition. A second car is being run for former British F3 champ Marc Hynes in the first four events of the Lights calendar.

Cleary, 27, is from Centerville, Ohio. He studied at Hamilton College in Central New York.
