Huntersville, N.C. (January 5, 2000)--- John "JR" Rhodes has been named vice president of Champion Sports Group, a full-service sports marketing. Rhodes will assume the authority of day-to-day management of the firm's motorsports department, in addition to serving as second-in-command over Champion Sports Group and its divisions.
Rhodes has acted as account executive of the General Motors Goodwrench Service Plus sponsorship program of the No. 3 NASCAR Winston Cup Chevrolet Monte Carlo, piloted by Dale Earnhardt, for nearly seven years. Acting as vice president, Rhodes will continue in his role with the GM program.
"JR has been a major asset for us for seven years. As we continue to grow it is a natural progression for him to assume more of the management responsibilities. He has earned the promotion and we are pleased to make this announcement. Anyone who has mastered Dale Earnhardt like JR has deserves this opportunity," said Champion Sports Group president David Allen.
Aside from the General Motors Goodwrench Service Plus sponsorship program, Champion Sports Group currently manages a variety of clients from motorsports to rodeo including ACDelco, NAPA, Bass Pro Shops, RealTree, GMAC, and Nationwide Insurance, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, RASE- Nike Racing Products, Red Head Outdoor Gear, and the Professional Bull Riders Ty Murray Invitational.
Champion Sports Group was founded by David Allen, and in 1998 merged with Fahlgren Inc., a full-service advertising agency. Champion Sports Group's services include public relations, hospitality, show trucks, promotions, and driver appearances. Champion's RASE division acts as the sole industry distributor of NIKE Racing apparel. Champion Rally Productions, another division of Champion Sports Group, operates as the promoter of annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., consisting of 300,000 riders for the week-long event.
