DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 28, 2001) - J.J. O'Malley has been named to the new position of Senior Editor, ISC Publications, Inc., a subsidiary of International Speedway Corporation (ISC).
O'Malley has been the director of public relations for Homestead-Miami Speedway since 1998. He served as director of communications at Watkins Glen International from 1984 through 1998.
In his new position, O'Malley will manage various publications and promotional activities with special emphasis on ISC's expanding calendar of open-wheel and road racing events. He will also serve as ISC's director of motorsports communications, assisting ISC facilities on special open-wheel and road racing media and public relations projects.
O'Malley's career in motorsports coverage dates back to 1973, when he began covering events for the Wilkes-Barre Sunday Independent and the Wyoming Valley Observer. He was news editor at National Speed Sport News in 1977, and was assistant sports editor at the Pocono Record (Stroudsburg, Pa.) from 1978-1983. He has authored three books on sports car racing, and is a regular columnist and contributor for Auto Racing Digest and other motorsports publications.
A graduate of King's College (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and 12-time competitor in the Boston Marathon, O'Malley is in the process of relocating to Port Orange, Fla., with his wife, Suzanne, and nine-year-old daughter, Erin.
