New Snowbird Nationals to showcase FMD with big purse
BRADENTON, Fla. - New ownership has brought the winds of change to the track formerly known as DeSoto Memorial Dragway. New owners Todd Dickinson and Alan Chervitz have renamed the facility Bradenton Motorsports Park, and have completely revamped the historic track. In addition to facility upgrades, BMP has 'upped the ante' at it's annual event, this year's Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by MegaPower, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, by posting $4000 to win in Top Alcohol Dragster (FMD).
This year's race will feature an eight car show of Top Alcohol Dragsters with two qualifying sessions on Saturday, followed by final eliminations on Sunday. In addition to the TAD, the featured class, will be Outlaw Pro Mods, Outlaw Street Cars, and exhibition runs by jet cars and wheelstanders, as well as bracket categories.
"Top Alcohol Dragster is our premiere drag racing class in this event," said Chervitz. "We have moved to Top Alcohol Dragsters exclusively this year, and have eliminated Top Fuel. We think they put on one heck of a show, and we think we can get a decent field, and put out a decent purse, and get them some decent run money. Next year we hope to incorporate the Top Alcohol Funny Cars into the event. We will just build from year to year, and this year is the start of the new Snowbird Outlaw Nationals."
"This is a big show for racers," Chervitz continued. "Both the heads up racer and the bracket racers, as well as a fantastic show for the spectators. In addition to the Top Alcohol Dragsters and outlaw door car classes, we are adding an interesting twist of a class. We are calling it 'outlaw open' class, to where it will be anything but door cars, top alcohol or top fuel cars. It should be a really interesting class, we don't know what to expect. In addition we are going to have two jet dragsters, two jet funny cars, a triple engine jet semi, and a wheelstanding school bus Saturday night. It should be a good show for both the racers and the spectators."
Chervitz cites numerous facility upgrades as an additional attraction to perspective racers.
"The facility was the first thing we attacked," explained Chervitz. "We have made a number of improvements to this facility. We have made significant improvements to what we had and purchasing new equipment. We have repaved the return roads and parts of the pits, the PA system has been revamped with new pieces. The timing system has been gone through by Compulink, and completely updated the components or replaced them. Everything that can be painted has been painted or replaced. The restrooms are absolutely spotless. The concessions have all been gutted and replaced; we hired a professional restaurant to run our concessions, so the quality is very good. One of the biggest things we have done in addition to the physical things is that we just have a tremendous staff with a great attitude. When people come to race at BMP, they have fun."
