(West Allis, WI) January 14, 2004 - An all-encompassing partnership was announced today, naming Bridgestone/Firestone the "Official Tire" of The Milwaukee Mile. This all-encompassing partnership provides retail outlet promotion, at-track visibility
The Milwaukee Mile is in an unique position as the only auto racing facility scheduled to host both an Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race and a Champ Car World Series event in 2004.
"We are excited and believe our proactive, promotional partnership with Bridgetone/Firestone will be a great benefit to the Milwaukee Mile and its loyal race fans," stated Milwaukee Mile Vice President and General Manager Mark Perrone. "We are formulating plans for in-store promotions with area Bridgestone and Firestone retail locations, which we know will generate great interest and bring new race fans to see world-class racing on one of our four race weekends at The Milwaukee Mile!"
"There's no doubt this relationship is going to be great for both of us," exclaimed Jim Grisamore, District Manager, Bridgestone/Firestone Retail Operations in Wisconsin. "We love racing, and we have a lot of fun things planned to help introduce our customers to the great racing that goes on at The Milwaukee Mile. We are looking forward to welcoming race fans into our 23 Bridgestone and Firestone locations in the Milwaukee district."
The longstanding history of racing at The Milwaukee Mile, dating back to it's first auto race held in 1903, parallels the tradition and excellence of Bridgestone/Firestone.
The Firestone brand first appeared on a racecar at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909, two years prior to the first Indianapolis 500-mile race. Legendary drivers A.J. Foyt, Lloyd Ruby and Al Unser are among the drivers who have raced to victory at The Milwaukee Mile aboard race cars equipped with Firestone racing tires.
The winning tradition of Firestone continues, as Firestone Firehawks are the official tire of the Indianapolis 500, and serves as the official tire of the Indy Racing League's IndyCar Series and Infiniti Pro Series. The stars of the Indy 500 competing in the Indy Racing League will make it's first appearance at the improved one-mile oval the weekend of July 23, 24 and 25.
The Bridgestone brand became a presenting sponsor of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered By Ford in 2003, and is regarded as a world leader in motorsports, capturing titles in motorcycles and, for six consecutive seasons and counting, the FIA Formula One World Series. The champ cars return under the lights at The Milwaukee Mile June 3, 4 and 5, with Bridgestone Potenzas the exclusive tire for the series.
"We're thrilled to announce this new partnership," said Al Speyer, executive director of motorsports, Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire, LLC. "The Milwaukee Mile is one of the world's legendary racing venues and has a history in motorsports as long as our own company's. It's such a unique opportunity for us to be able to showcase both our brands at one venue, and there is certainly no more appropriate place for us to do that than at the 'Mile."
The Milwaukee Mile is the longest running, continuously operated motorsports facility in the world. The 2003 season marked the track's 100th Anniversary and the introduction of a new grandstand, one of the many improvements at America's Legendary Oval. For 2004, The Milwaukee Mile celebrates "100 Years and Accelerating" with a first-time offer of season ticket packages for four great racing weekends: June 3, 4, 5 Champ Car World Series racing under the lights; June 24, 25, 26 NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Busch Series racing at night; July 23, 24, 25 IRL IndyCar Series and USAC Silver Crown and Midget divisions; August 27, 28, 29 ASA Racing Series and the Governor's Cup events. All headline events will feature national television coverage. For details regarding specific events and ticket/hospitality availability, visit www.milwaukeemile.com.
