McLaren's David Coulthard walked away from a heavy crash recently and Michelin are preparing to investigate as a tyre problem seems to be responsible. In private testing at Barcelona on Friday Coulthard's MP4-17 went into a spin at the first corner, hit the gravel and rolled after a rear tyre deflated -- amazingly Couthard was unharmed and the car had only minor damage.

McLaren ran on Bridgestone's until this year when they made the switch to Michelin and this was the first incident they've had with the new tyres. The French manufacturer will be looking into the accident to find out what went wrong.

A spokesman for Michelin said: "The tyre will be examined for penetration and other problems back at our HQ in Clermont-Ferrand and we should have a better idea what caused the problems on Monday or Tuesday. We don't know yet what caused it but it looks like a puncture. It's a bit early to say anything yet.”
