Martinsville Speedway President Campbell Honored By EDC

MARTINSVILLE, VA (May 18, 2006) -- Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell was honored by the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation Wednesday for his help with economic development in Martinsville and Henry County.

Campbell received the Ambassador of the Year Award from EDC President and CEO Mark Heath during a Business Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the EDC and the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes efforts that exceed expectations when hosting local economic development prospects.

"This award is not about me, it is about the people I have surrounding me at Martinsville Speedway and the job that they do," Campbell said when accepting the award. "They're really the ambassadors."

Campbell has been involved in economic development at both the local and state level. He is on the board of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.

"Martinsville Speedway generates the type of publicity for Martinsville and Henry County that the EDC could never dream of generating," said Heath. "The Speedway draws people from all over the country and (its' events) are broadcast around the world. The Speedway is so important to this community."

Campbell, a lifelong resident of Martinsville and Henry County, used a local community pride slogan in accepting the award.

"I love this place, NASCAR loves this place, but most importantly, fans from all over the world love this place," said Campbell.
