Turner Awarded $130 Million Contract to Build 1.5-Mile Speedway In Kansas City, Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kansas City, Mo. office of Turner Construction Company has been awarded a $130 million contract for the construction of a 1.5-mile speedway for the Kansas Speedway Corporation in Kansas City, Kans. Turner Construction is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Turner Corporation (NYSE: TUR), the nation's leading general builder. With initial spectator capacity of 75,000, the 1.5-mile speedway has been designed to accommodate most types of major motorsport events. Construction completion is scheduled for no later than Spring 2001. Turner is the construction manager at risk for the assignment. Turner has provided preconstruction and design development services to the project owner for the past two years. The project owner is the Kansas Speedway Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of International Speedway Corporation (ISC) (Nasdaq: ISCA; OTC Bulletin Board: ISCB), Daytona Beach, Fla. ISC is a leading promoter of motorsport activities, and currently promotes more than 80 events annually, including the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The project engineer for the facility is HNTB of Kansas City, Mo., and Orlando, Fla., and the architect is the DLR Group of Tampa, Fla., and Overland Park, Kans. Current and recently completed projects for Turner's Kansas City, Mo., office include Village Shalom, a senior living facility in Overland Park, Kans.; Menorah Medical Park Hospital, Overland Park, Kans.; a pharmaceutical production facility for Bayer Corporation in Shawnee, Kans., and a headquarters campus facility for Hoechst Marion Roussel, N.A. in Kansas City, Mo.
