In addition to his four-year experience at Sauber, Capito (42) has also worked for Porsche AG where he was involved not only with motorsport, but also with the development of special production cars, including a variety of high performance 911 models. "We are delighted to welcome Jost to the team," said Martin Leach, Vice President Product Development, Ford of Europe. "He is an engineer and manager of the very highest calibre, with fantastic motorsport experience. Thanks to the success of cars like the Escort Cosworth, and Sierra Cosworth, SVE has a reputation for developing some of the most exciting cars on the road. Jost will play a big part in building on that reputation in the future.
"SVE will help us accelerate the transformation of our business in Europe," he added. "We will continue to add real excitement to the Ford brand with performance niche models such as the Focus RS, Focus ST170 and Mondeo ST220."
A keen motorcycle and ski enthusiast, Jost Capito won the truck class in the Paris Dakar rally in 1985. He is married, and with two children.
Ford's specialist engineering division, based at Dunton in the UK, now called SVE, has been responsible for the development of numerous icon enthusiast vehicles. The RS-badged Sierra and Escort Cosworth models, the mid-engine Ghia-styled RS200 and the popular Fiesta RS Turbo are among more than 20 high performance models produced since 1970.
