ICE MILLER IS TITLE SPONSOR OF SPEEDWAY'S CENTENNIAL GALA
INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 -- Longtime Indianapolis Motor Speedway business partner Ice Miller will serve as title sponsor of the Speedway's much-anticipated Centennial Gala on Friday, Feb. 27.
The Gala, which will take place at the Indiana Convention Center, will kick off the Speedway's three-year Centennial Era celebration from 2009-2011.
Ice Miller, one of the largest Indianapolis-based law firms with additional offices in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and DuPage County, Ill., has represented IMS on a variety of transactions and legal matters since the 1930s, including Anton "Tony" Hulman's purchase of the facility on Nov. 14, 1945.
"The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Ice Miller have had an incredibly long and successful business partnership, so it is quite appropriate that they play a leading role in our Centennial celebrations," said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer. "I thank them for their support of this exciting event."
"The eight-decade partnership between Ice Miller and the IMS is potentially unmatched among sports enterprises," said Byron Myers, chief managing partner at Ice Miller. "Our relationship goes back to the days of Harry Ice and Indiana business icon Tony Hulman."
"Tony George is a friend as well as a client of the firm," said Dave Mattingly, a partner at Ice Miller, who manages the Speedway relationship along with Mark Richards, also a partner at Ice Miller.
"We are honored that the Speedway presented us with such a wonderful opportunity to share in their celebration," said Richards.
The Centennial Gala is just the first of many events over the next three years that will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which was founded and built in 1909, and the 100th anniversary of the inaugural Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, which took place in 1911.
