Carolyn Ashbee Named Goodyear Drag Racing Manager
AKRON, Ohio (March 11, 2002) - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced today that Carolyn Ashbee has been appointed marketing manager for drag racing. Ashbee replaces Perry Bell, who has retired.
Ashbee will be on the job at the National Hot Rod Association's MAC Tools Gatornationals at Gainsville, Fla., March 14-17.
"Carolyn has a tremendous amount of experience in various forms of racing, and we're looking forward to her applying that knowledge to our drag program," said Greg Stucker, director, racing tire sales and marketing.
Ashbee's career at Goodyear began while she was still in high school and, since she graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in data processing, she has served in a number of capacities in Goodyear's road racing and NASCAR racing programs. Most recently, she was the marketing manager for short track racing.
"As I enter my 29th year in Goodyear Racing, I am looking forward to this new challenge," said Ashbee. "I'm intrigued by the service demands drag racing puts on a tire. The power of a Top Fuel car is amazing."
Bell retires at the end of a 34-year career at Goodyear, the vast majority of which was spent in racing. With a degree in mechanical engineering, he was involved in many facets of the racing division, from NASCAR, to Formula One, to CART, before switching to drag racing in 2000.
