The first transverse gearbox for endurance racing developed by leading gearbox manufacturer, Gemini Transmissions, has been put through its paces in readiness for 2001 season. Sportscar ace, Andy Wallace, tested the new Gemini GT75C transmission in the Crawford World Sports Car, which was running for the first time at Caroline Motor Sports Park in the USA, and was impressed with its performance 'straight out of the box'.
Wallace enthused after the test, "This is very promising. The gear change was very fast and very precise with no sloppiness at all. This is as good as it gets! Although it was supposed to be just a shake down, I felt confident immediately and was able to push much harder than I ever expected."
Max Crawford, Owner of the Crawford Company which has produced this new endurance racer, and Doran Racing Team boss, Kevin Doran, who ordered the first car, were both delighted with the initial performance. Crawford commented," I'm pleased because the Gemini Box lived up to my expectations. This project is so important to me. I specified Gemini because I believed they could build the best gearbox for this car. Gemini has proved a point as far as I'm concerned. Andy would say immediately if he didn't like it, but he loves this new transverse Gemini Gearbox and says it compares very favourably with the very best he's driven. He says it's phenomenal. We're just learning about our new car but we know we have great potential."
Kevin Doran added, "This is an encouraging start and I feel a lot better about our prospects. We all know this is a tough business but this positive start helps to motivate everyone to try harder and do even better."
Andre Verwey, Chairman of Gemini said of the venture, ""Max Crawford and Kevin Doran have done a great job with this first car and we are proud to have been chosen to be part of their excellent new project. The Gemini GT75C transverse endurance gearbox has been developed with CrawfordSSC designer, Andy Scriven, for the new sports racer, with Gemini building the casing to the design specification of Crawford. The internals and change mechanism have been developed by Gemini's engineers specifically for this package, with the unit incorporating all the features required for endurance style of racing - high durability and ease of servicing."
