Formula SAE is just one of the programs in the SAE Collegiate Design Series. SAE, The Engineering Society For Advancing Mobility in Land Sea Air and Space, started the Collegiate Design Sereies competitions as a learning tool for engineering students to form teams in order to respond real-world situations. Each team needs to meet challenges and create opportunities as a team.

The Formula SAE competition requires the students to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with samll formula-style race cars. The event is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of Amserica (SCCA) and sponsored by DaimlerChrysler, Ford, and General Motors.
