At the St. Johns County Commission meeting, held last night the supporters for St. Augustine Speedway (Florida Speed Park) won a great victory. The zoning commission voted to zone the park and have the hour's changes. The speakers were about 10 to 1 for the change. Also speaking was the president of the ASA, who spoke about the live TV coverage the track would have this February. The commission decided it was in the best interest of the community to rezone the track land. An interesting side note, it seems the complainant was one of the original signers to have the track built.

The hours of operation of the track are now:
Mon - Thursday = 8 am to 10 pm, with 10 allowable extensions of one hour per year.
Friday and Sat = 8 am to 12 midnight, with 12 allowable extensions of one hour.
And Sunday = for rain- out only - from 12 noon to 8 pm. A year ago in May a neighbor complained about the noise from the track. A clause was found in the zoning that the track was not to operate car on the track from 4 - 6:45 pm Saturdays or any race day. Also NO practice during the week except for Thursday night from 5- 8 pm. So this made race day very complicated. Practice from 2 - 4 pm then stop till 6:45 pm. Now every thing is back to normal. An announcement about when racing will resume will come later.
