Elan Motorsport Technologies Takes Charge of Van Diemen Imports and Parts
Palmetto, Fla. (August 10, 2005) -- Effective immediately, Elan Motorsport Technologies, based in Braselton, Ga., has assumed responsibility for the importation and parts distribution for all Van Diemen race cars throughout North America.
EMT, which took over as the parent company of Van Diemen in 2000, has thereby expanded its role with the world-renowned British race car manufacturer, assuming the duties held for the past 16 years by Primus Racing.
"My partners and I are very excited about this news," said Jon Baytos, who formed Primus Racing along with his brother, Brad, in 1988. "This is a win-win situation for everyone involved, and particularly for all current and future owners of Van Diemen racing cars. We are grateful to [EMT Managing Director] David Bowes for making this possible and excited about the direction he is taking with the Van Diemen brand."
Primus Racing, based in Palmetto, Fla., will remain an authorized dealer for Van Diemen, and the Baytos brothers will continue their long-term associations with the marque on a consultancy basis. Jon will concentrate on sales and marketing, with a particular emphasis on the burgeoning Cooper Tires Championship Series for Formula Ford 2000 cars, while Brad will oversee spares and inventory.
"Van Diemen has a rich heritage in racing," said David Bowes, "and I am delighted to have reached an agreement with Jon, who is one of the best salesmen I know. We have some exciting plans for the future. EMT is putting the weight of its Indy 500-winning design team behind the Van Diemen brand, as well as all the resources of the Panoz Motorsports Group.
"Van Diemen cars always have provided great value for money and we're committed to continuing that strength," continued Bowes. "I believe we will operate more efficiently than before and that all our customers -- past, present and future -- will benefit from the longevity of our plans."
