Angola, IN (February 19, 2004) - Due to weather and construction delays, Officials at Angola Motor Speedway announced today they will not open in 2004 until Labor Day weekend.
Wes Parrish, Promoter, said today that with the amount of new construction projects involved, it would be impossible to open in time for weekly racing. "We had a meeting this morning and decided we cannot meet the deadline of May 15th to open," Parrish said. "We regret having to delay the opening, but in the long run it will give us the time required to do the job right." he continued.
Angola Motor Speedway is installing all new aluminum bleachers, a new control tower with 4 V.I.P. suites and Press room, a large concession area, ticket center, restrooms, Hall of Fame Center, and a Video Game room for the kids.
On the schedule for 2004 is a Labor Day Weekend Extravaganza and details for that event will be released at a later date. Keep watching the Angola Motor Speedway website for construction updates and important news.
"Dick Poe notified us Thursday of his change in plans for Angola Motor Speedway," commented Glenn Luckett, Director of the Sunoco Super Series. "We totally understand why he had to make the changes for the 2004 season with the weather and construction. With what he has planned Angola Motor Speedway will be one of the nicest short track facilities in Indiana. We will be a part of the Labor Day Show at Angola Motor Speedway on September 4th, and we are currently working to replace the Sunoco Super Series show that was scheduled for Saturday, July 3rd."
