SPARTA, KY - Kentucky Speedway and Tide, the flagship detergent of Cincinnati, OH based Procter & Gamble, celebrate the NASCAR accomplishments of NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip and honor him with a life size bronze statue and walkway at the track's Turn 3 Fan Center. This sculpture is particularly special since Darrell has played an integral part of the track's design and development since its inception. Dedication will take place Saturday, June 16, 2001 prior to the Inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race at Kentucky Speedway".
For twenty-nine years, Darrell thrilled NASCAR audiences by winning eighty-four races, three championships, and the 1989 Daytona 500 under the sponsorship of Tide®, America's Favorite Laundry Detergent. The Kentucky native retired after the 2000 season and is now the lead television analyst of Fox's NASCAR coverage. He will be part of Fox's coverage at the race on June 16th in Kentucky.

The life size bronze statue depicts Waltrip's famous pose in his Tide Racing uniform after his greatest accomplishment in NASCAR - winning the Daytona 500 in 1989. Set on a four-foot solid granite base, the statue will weigh over 8,000lbs.
"We are very excited to pay tribute to Darrell and his NASCAR career. It is particularly special as Darrell was our first NASCAR driver, helping us to establish a winning history. Darrell will always be an important part of the Tide family and we are proud to partner with Kentucky Speedway and recognize him in this way," said Brian McNamara, Tide Brand Manager.
Surrounding the statue will be the Darrell Waltrip Memorial Walkway, a park-like setting, linking the Fan Center to the monument. Kentucky Speedway" has arranged for fans and companies to be a part of history. Lining the Walkway will be personalized bricks that can be purchased and inscribed. For those who order their bricks by April 27th, they will also be registered to be a special VIP Guest of "DW" at the dedication ceremony. Ordering a brick by April 27th also guarantees placement for the ceremony.
