Another Record-Breaking Season for Brembo Brakes
Kicks Off 2009 North American Season at Rolex 24 at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fl., Jan. 23, 2009 -- Repeat champions in any competitive sport are rare and when teams do it "repeatedly" they are considered dynasties. In motorsports, Ferrari has been a repeat champion in Formula One eight times, while Audi is the dynasty of the decade in sports car racing.
And both have at least one thing in common:Brembo brakes. In fact, Brembo Racing has been a repeat champion for over 30 years!
At Brembo -- where technology is ever changing, always improving -- one thing never seems to change. Year in and year out, Brembo seems to always be the choice of repeat Champions!
Brembo is a fascinating success story just 30 years in the making. Although founded in 1961, Brembo began racing in 1975 when Enzo Ferrari entrusted the Bergamo-based, high-performance brake manufacturer with the task of fitting its most prestigious Formula One car. Since then, Brembo has been at the forefront of the motorsports arena, winning over 200 world championships, a record that is unprecedented in the industry.
The reason for the company's success is fairly simple: Brembo's constant innovation involving new technologies, materials and state-of-the-art products results in the most comprehensive line of high-performance braking systems and components in the world. Brembo's motorsports results are so dominant that most of the 2008 championships are repeats of the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
When one thinks of Brembo, sports car racing comes to mind immediately and rightfully so. In 2008, Audi (and Brembo) won its ninth-straight LMP1 crown in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and its eighth overall victory in nine years at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Brembo repeated in GT1 at Le Mans as well, with Aston Martin duplicating its 2007 victory over Corvette.
Brembo-equipped teams also dominated the Speed World Challenge Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships with Peter Cunningham winning Touring Car in his #44 RealTime Acura TSX and Randy Pobst atop the GT class in the #1 K-PAX Porsche.
On the NASCAR circuit, Brembo equipped Clint Bowyer's #2 Chevrolet for the Nationwide Series crown and Johnny Benson's #23 Toyota Tundra for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship, winning both series for the third-straight year as well. Brembo's dominance in racing was not reserved for four-wheel vehicles in 2008 as Brembo helped Yamaha and Suzuki win every race in their respective series this season as Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was crowned MotoGP Champion for the 6th time while Suzuki's Ben Spies repeated as AMA Pro Superbike Champion. Brembo also equipped Troy Bayliss' #21 Ducati as he won his third World Superbike Championship.
Another repeat champion was Ferrari as they clinched the 2008 F1 Constructors' crown. This is the 14th time that Ferrari and Brembo have stood on the top rung of the Formula One FIA World Championship.
After finishing 1-2 with Volkswagen in the historic 2009 Dakar Rally this past week, Brembo kicks off its 2009 race to the championships at the Rolex 24 at Daytona where over 50% of the field is equipped with Brembo brakes for the third year in a row. With 27 out of 51 entries running Brembo calipers and/or discs, chances for a repeat win appear to be reasonable, especially in the GT class where 20 racers are equipped with the Italian manufacturer's product.
Some of the featured prototype vehicles are: SunTrust Racing (2005 Rolex and DP champions), Doran Racing, Krohn Racing and Penske Racing. Multi-car teams in GT include: Mastercar's two Ferraris, TRG's five Porsches and Farnbacher Loles Racing's five Porsche. Racing teams and manufacturers such as Audi, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz AMG and Lamborghini, who demand the best, turn to the experts in braking technology and performance: Brembo. The strong support and trusted relationships that Brembo has with more than 30 original equipment manufacturers and hundreds of Championship Winning Race Teams in F1, NASCAR and sports cars, is based on the fact that Brembo is the industry benchmark. There is no other company or product line on the market that can match Brembo's level of technology and performance.
Congratulations to all of Brembo's 2008 Champions and Championship teams.
