CHICAGO, IL – The die-cast replicas of all three Amoco Racing programs will be highlighted in a unique month-long promotion in May at participating BP-Amoco stations nationwide.
The cars, detailed 1/64-scale metal replicas produced by Racing Champions, will be available beginning Monday, May 1 for $1.29 per car with every Amoco Ultimate or Silver fill-up of eight gallons or more. The limited offer will run while supplies last or through Tuesday, May 30.
Replicas featured include the #93 Amoco/Siemens Pontiac Grand Prix of NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Dave Blaney; the Mopar-powered #93 Amoco sprint car of World of Outlaws standout Dale Blaney and the NHRA Pro Stock Dodge Avenger of Allen Johnson. The limited-offer program last May which offered both the Amoco Busch Series entry of Dave Blaney and the Amoco WoO entry which Blaney owns represented one of company’s most successful motorsports-driven, point-of-sale promotions.
"We’re tremendously excited about being able to highlight all three drivers and teams of the BP Amoco Motorsports program with this limited offer at our stores," said Alan McGown, Manager, Motorsports. "We realize that having a presence with three of America’s premier sanctioning bodies—NASCAR, the NHRA and the World of Outlaws—give us a unique opportunity to reach our consumers with several different racing programs all linked to our industry niche. This promotion combining our stock car, sprint car and pro-stock dragster also gives us a chance to continue to build the equity in and awareness of the broad reach of BP Amoco’s commitment to American motorsports as a viable marketing tool for the Amoco Ultimate brand and our other products."
The #93 Amoco/Siemens Winston Cup team has joined the front-running #22 Caterpillar/Polaris Pontiac team of driver Ward Burton as a second entry for Bill Davis Racing in NASCAR’s top competitive level. The #93 Amoco sprint car is in its first season of sole ownership by Dave Blaney and DB Racing with younger brother Dale—the 1998 World of Outlaws Rookie-of-the-Year—in his second tour of duty with the family-owned team. Allen Johnson joins father Roy as the nucleus of their family-owned Pro Stock team which finished ninth in the NHRA championship standings in that division.
"The Amoco die-cast car promotion represents the most successful racing promotion ever run at Amoco sites," said Dave Mackey, Partner, Pendine Motorsports Group, the agency responsible for all Amoco Racing promotions and related marketing programs . "Our retailers have seen how quickly these cars sell out and are very excited to receive this second-year version of the promotion.
"In 2000, three racing series are represented, making the full set a highly collectible product that is certain to draw consumers into Amoco sites for several gasoline purchases. Amoco Racing is very pleased with the high level of participation among our retailers and the enthusiasm generated among our customers."
