Charouz-Gravity Racing in top 8 in Imola AutoGP practices
Free practices started second round of the AutoGP series which hosts Italian Imola circuit. The Czech-Luxembourg Charouz-Gravity Racing have a complete line-up of four cars in Italy. Adrien Tambay starred with third time in the second practice, Stefano Coletti was fifth in the third practice. Also Jan Charouz a Walter Grubmuller Jr. were in the top 8 during the day.
The organisers of the AutoGP currently have 16 Lola-Zytek single-seaters and the second round of the championship at Imola see the complete field of cars. Also Charouz-Gravity Racing team are complete in Italy after Stefano Colleti replaced injured Natacha Gachnang and joined the regular drivers Jan Charouz, Walter Grubmueller jun. and Adrien Tambay.
Adrien Tambay had one hand on the podium in the second race at Brno but had to retire from the third place just before the finish. He has shown again at Imola that he feels really good behind the wheel of an AutoGP car because he wes 4th, 3rd, 6th and 8th in four practices on Friday.
Stefano Coletti makes his debut in the AutoGP which weekend and proved to be a quick learner. The Monegasque driver was classified 5th in the third practice. Also Walter Grubmuller with Jan Charouz enjoyed a good day, the Austrian was 7th in the third practice, the Czech 8th in the first one.
Majority of the drivers used new or just slightly scrubbed tyres in the afternoon while Charouz-Gravity Racing continued to work on fine tuning of the car on used tyres, therefore the times did not reflect the real form of the team. The team is slightly optimistic after little problems at Brno. Of course, the truth will be known only after the qualifying and races.
Jan Charouz: "We ran on used tyres in the afternoon while our rivals put on new rubber, so there is no point to compare the lap times. However, we did a lot of work even though the car is still not ideal. Anyway, Imola is a really nice track which suits me, so we will si how we gone in the qualifying."
Walter Grubmuller Jr.: "I struggled a bit in the first practice but I was improving during the day and ended satisfied. I just had some brake issues in the last practice which affected my position. Overall the car feels better than at Brno, the team did a lot of work and I hope it will be visible in the qualifying and races."
Adrien Tambay: "Today was not bad, especially in the two practices in the morning. Everyone had same tyres in the morning while in the afternoon there were different tyres strategies which mean that the lap times do not reflect the real competiveness. We are confident for tomorrow. We will see how it will be in the qualifying. It will show how competitive we really are."
Stefano Coletti: "It was good. It is my first time in this car, my first Imola visit and I still managed to get to the top 5. I guess it is not bad to begin with. I hope it will continue like this also tomorrow and I will be in the top 5 also in the qualifying.
