GONZALEZ TAKES POLE POSITIONS AND PREPARES FOR THE FIGHT
BONANOMI THE FASTEST AMONG THE TITLE CONTENDERS
Everybody was waiting for a fight between the Euroseries 3000 by PartyPoker Racing title contenders, but surprisingly Rodolfo Gonzalez was the one who took qualifying honours. The Venezuelan driver, in great shape from friday, started the session very well clinching the best time with the first set of new tyres. The duel got hotter with the second tyres set, when Gonzalez managed to take the best time in the final minutes, beating Marco Bonanomi by just 0.004, with a time of 1'36"197. Rodolfo promised an aggressive race with no particular attention towards the team mates that are racing for the championship. Anyway, he will have to carefully look in the mirrors as behind him he will have the four fastest divers of the series.
Bonanomi, second behind Gonzalez, was able to complete a perfect lap but during the whole session he seemed less consistent than the competition. He managed that wonderful laptime thanks to his great talent that allow him to drive on the edge, and this was crucial for taking a good place on the grid, ahead of his main rival, Fabio Onidi, third and just three hundredths adrift. By his side, on the second row, he will have Will Bratt. The brit had the fastest laptime with just four minutes to go, but in the final phase of the qualifying he had to back off in his fastest lap due to a slow car on the racing line, and this denied him a better position in the standings.
For Crestani, fifth on the grid, missing the friday morning session was a great handicap, but anyway he deserves attention as he is used to great comebacks during the race. Behind him, with a 1'38"146, there's Juan Carlos Sistos, closely followed by a surprising Matteo Cozzari, already fast despite having taken the wheel of the car just on friday. The two are ahead of Francesco Dracone, eight with a 1'38"706.
Also in qualifying, the Lola B05/52 showed how fast it can be, being 3 tenths faster than the Superleague Formula pole position (1'36"444) and also faster than the 2008 Ws by Renault pole (1'36"480).
Rodolfo Gonzalez: "I'm very happy about the pole position, I think it's deserved for what I've done in this weekend. I think that the good idea was sticking to our first setup, with few changes, and just concentrating on driving fast on the track. That's what I'll do also in the race, I will attack and if i will have to fight with someone, I won't back off. I have no championship hopes, so I have nothing to lose and I will give everything to win".
Marco Bonanomi: "I'm happy about my fastest lap, but I don't feel that we have reached the limit with the car. It's better then in free practice, but we must find more speed. I'm sorry for losing the pole for so little, i needed the extra point".
Fabio Onidi: "I'm satisfied because, apart from the starting position, the important thing is that we are very close. Obviously I would have preferred starting ahead of Bonanomi, but I will try to fix that with one of my usual great starts".
