CRESTANI SUPERB WEEK-END ENDS UP WITH A SEVERE ACCIDENT REMARKABLE DEBUT FOR BAMBER

The week-end seemed to be full of satisfactions for TP Formula that could have significantly strengthened its leadership in the team rankings as well as the one of Fabrizio Crestani in the drivers' championship, but Saturday's fulfillment has quickly been swept away by a severe accident: the Italian driver was involved on Sunday, with no fault, in a bad crash but luckily escaped any injuries.

Already in the opening free practices TP Formula had confirmed its supremacy leaving the opponents one second and an half behind Crestani, first, and 8 tenths behind Bamber, second. The same result has been achieved in the following session, with another one-two, and almost obtained also in qualifying.

Crestani had managed to grab the pole from his main championship contender Bonanomi, thanks also to an excellent team strategy that allowed him to have a clear lap when the track conditions were at their best. Bamber has long been in the top positions as well, but a small imperfection in his fastest lap did not allow him to grab the first row on the grid.

At the start of the first race Crestani had the only hesitation of the entire week-end and was overtaken by Bonanomi: from the first lap he has then been hot on his wheels, but, even with a much faster pace, also showed by the fastest lap, he did not manage to go past the rival, being also aware of the importance of a second place, which was sufficient to maintain the leadership in the championship. Remarkable performance also for Bamber who, after losing few positions at the start, has been protagonist of a great comeback, overtaking after overtaking, catching up to the fourth position.

In the second race Crestani, seventh due to reversed grid, had a good start and was getting ready to chase another podium when, after the first lap, coming out of last corner, Delle Stelle spun, turning into a loose cannon just when the rest of the field was approaching. He then hit Crestani who nothing could do to avoid him. The TP Formula driver crashed hard against the barriers, ending his race and losing, even if for one only point, the championship leadership. Bamber was once again author of an amazing performance and went really close to the podium in his debut race, although it was for him the first time with this car and on this track.

Gianluca Pomozzi (Team Principal): "We are extremely disappointed and sorry for the accident occurred to Fabrizio, but all these bad feelings are almost swept away by the awareness that he is ok and completely unharmed. Moreover we have to be satisfied with the pace we have shown throughout the weekend and therefore confident of being able to achieve more points in the next round at Donington. I am pleased to welcome Earl Bamber, an highly talented driver that we have followed for long time and we are delighted to finally have him in the team: we can't be other than extremely satisfied with his performance as he has proven to be not only fast but also able to learn quickly both the track and the car and to work in great harmony with the team. He showed great responsibility despite his 18 years and we really look forward to confirming him for the rest of the season. I also want to congratulate with the whole team as, thanks to the excellent job done, has allowed us to maintain a good margin of advantage in the team rankings."
