The Duo GP Racing - Fabrizio Del Monte Dominate in Brno
Last year in Brno, Fabrizio Del Monte won his first victory in the championship and this hasn't changed in 2004: The duo GP Racing - Del Monte is one step ahead of the other rivals.
Del Monte's superiority was never doubted: the pole position during the qualifications with a clear second lead ahead of with the second runner up (Norbert Siedler) and during the race, Fabrizio picked up a pace that none of his adversaries could keep up to. Maxime Hodencq also did well. He was 11th on the starting grid and finshed in 12th place without ever losing the slipstream of Reid, Heidfeld, Ippoliti, Ricci and Kostka. The only negative note of the weekend was Tor Graves' off track incident. Tor Graves lost control of his car during the 3rd lap when he was in ninth place. The English driver who made his debut in this category, hit the gravel and wasn't able to finish the race.
Tancredi Pagiaro, Team Manager
"What can I say? Fabrizio's race was flawless and the car was simply perfect. All this thanks to the team's hard work. Del Monte didn't make any mistakes: he gained about an eight second lead after 3 laps. He didn't lose his concentration when the safety car went on track and he continued to improve his time by at least another second per lap. Then when it started to rain, he was in control of the race without taking any risks.
I'm a little disappointed about Tor's race but the championship is still long and I'm sure that the driver will have a chance to prove his talent. It was after all his debut and so all this is acceptable.
Maxime instead had compromised the race at the start when he lost a few positions because his tyres skidded. However, he was then later able to keep a good rhythm and set a good time per lap. It was especially important for him to finish the race because it's crucial for him to accumulate some experience.
We dominated this race but we can't jump for joy just yet. Our objective is to be competitive for the rest of the season with all of our 3 cars.
Fabrizio Del Monte
"Brno must be my lucky track because it's my second win here. Everything went smoothly this weekend and this is thanks to the team's hard work. I won and dominated this race but this is just the first race of the season. So, I need to keep my two feet on the ground."
"I reached the finish line and this is very important for me. Moreover, I easily keep up with the others and was never too far behind. This is a good starting point for me and I hope to progress throughout the season."
"My first race in the Superfund Euro 3000 championship ended after a few laps. I ended up spinning, landing on the gravel and couldn't start again. It's a real pity but the season has just begun. I have no doubts that I'll get a chance to make up for this."
