November 2nd '03 - Marco Bonanomi took today at Cagliari an excellent fourth place in the second race of F3 Sardinia Master, worth also of the fourth place in the final standings of the Master.
The young Italian of Coloni Motorsport looked in a good shape yet in the morning warm up, as he set the third time using rain tyres, proving one more time the competitiveness of the car. In race Marco turned the good job done in the week end into a good fourth place.
Michele Rugolo, who made right at Cagliari his F3 debut, finished 9th: the possibility to fight with race leaders was cancelled out by a pit stop inflicted to the Italian, who however was one of the fastest drivers today.
An unlucky week end for Christian Montanari: the Sammarinese in fact ended his race after only two laps, due to a contact with a wall that damaged his Lola. What a pity for Montanari, who in race too 1 was among the most competitive drivers.
Coloni Motorsport wants to thanks Lola, Dome, Mugen Honda, Motul and all the sponsors that helped the team to reach the successes of 2003 Formula 3 season.
Marco Bonanomi, 4th : "I made a good start and I kept my fifth place. During the first laps I followed closely the leaders, and then I thought to the race and to hold my position, in order to not lose the opportunity to get experience and data. It was a demanding race, Franchi was always close behind me, but I was able to control him and to pass Viso. I'm happy with my result, taken at my first race on a street circuit".
Michele Rugolo, 9th : "I'm sorry for the stop and go, but this was my first race in F3 and I'm satisfied. Considering my times --I set the 4th fastest lap- my performances was at the same level of the leaders' ones".
Christian Montanari, ret : "It was quite an unlucky week end: on the second lap I collided with a wall, I damaged my car and the race finished there. What a pity, because yesterday the car was going really well and we could have got a good result also in race 2".
Enzo Coloni: "I'm very happy with this result and with the performances of the car, given that this was the first time for our drivers and our car on a street circuit, not forgetting that we lacked of experience with Avon tyres".
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal : "It was a very useful experience, both for technicians and drivers, who had to challenge the winner of Norisring Euro Series race, the vice-champion of Japanese F3 and other talented drivers. I think that the experience we gathered at Cagliari will allow us to better plan our future and to make the best choice for the drivers we will line up in 2004".
