Petrov wins and gets closer to the Fisichella drivers in the rankings
Fourth success in the Euroseries 3000 for Vitaly Petrov (Euronova), who won in Barcellona on a finally dry track after two raining days. The race has been full of surprises and the viewers who had the chance to watch it live on TV have seen for sure a great show.
It was Tuka Rocha (Minardi) to get the first position at the start but he was then penalized with a drive through due to jump start; Davide Rigon (Minardi), at his first experience on a F.3000 car, took therefore the lead, with Petrov in second position who tried hard to overtake him and finally managed to do so, also thanks to his bigger experience. Matteo Cressoni (Traini/Vanni) finished third, getting a satisfaction after a very unlucky week-end. The Brazilian Rocha, after the sanction, has been protagonist of a good come back from ninth to fourth.
An early end of the race for the two drivers of the Fisichella Motorsport, who are fighting for the Championship as, at the start, Alex Ciompi (Avelon) went on the grass, closed by the poleman Gavin Cronje (Auto Sport), then, braking at the first turn, with the tyres still dirty, took off on Bonanomi car to end his flight on Ricci. A black week-end for the team and expecially for Bonanomi who had been involved , also in the Saturday race, in an accidend, with Gattuso, without being his fault as well.
The excellent performance of the Euronova team was also confirmed by Jerome D'Ambrosio recording the fastest time, before being obliged to retire for a technical problem when he was fighting for the first positions. A great debut also for Johnny Cecotto jr, with the Coloni F.3000 Rookies' Team, who gained the fifth position.
To underline also the exciting fight for the third place between Gattuso and Rodriguez, which unfortunately finished with them out of the race after a contact.
Before this Barcellona event, the challenge for the titile was almost closed between Ricci and Bonanomi, but now Vitaly Petrov will not give up for sure his chances in the next events. <pre> RACE 2 Barcelona Vitaly Petrov Lola B02/50 Euronova in 28'57''774 Davide Rigon Lola B02/50 Minardi 3''259 Matteo Cressoni Lola B02/50 Vanni/Traini 13''955 Tuka Rocha Lola B02/50 Minardi 16''681 Johnny Cecotto Jr Lola B02/50 F.3000 Rookies' Team 29''790 Gavin Cronje Lola B02/50 Autosport 53''234 Ivan Bellarosa Lola B02/50 Avelon 59''126 Francesco Dracone Lola B02/50 Euronova 1 lap Stefano Gattuso Lola B02/50 Autosport 5 laps Roldan Rodriguez Lola B02/50 Minardi 5 laps Jerome D'Ambrosio Lola B02/50 Euronova 21 laps Giacomo Ricci Lola B02/50 FMS 27 laps Marco Bonanomi Lola B02/50 FMS 27 laps Alessandro Ciompi Lola B02/50 Avelon 28 laps
