Piscopo tops Brno testing
It was a really intense day in Brno for the debut of the Auto GP season, with the teams on track for three hours of testing offered by the organization to best prepare the Czech weekend.
Team and drivers took full advantage from this chance to get acquainted with the cars and with the track, using the first session as a "toe in the water" and then looking for performance in the two remaining sessions.
After three hours of track time, Edoardo Piscopo was the man of the day with the best time of 1'43"141. The italian driver was in great shape because he topped sessions number two and three, keeping at bay a quick and very experienced driver like Giorgio Pantano. The SuperNova driver, who never drove the Lola B05/52 car before, was very careful in the first two session, but he was able to push when it was needed, in the last minutes of the last session with new tires, stopping just 3 hudredths away from Piscopo's time.
Pantano was ahead of Duncan Tappy, who already topped the first session in the morning. With his third place, the Brit completed a good day for DAMS. Behind him was Fabio Onidi, with an incredible gap of just 0.002 and three tenths ahead of a very quick Jan Charouz. After the Charouz-Gravity Racing driver, the pack was again very compact, with Grubmüller, Filippi, Leal, Reid, Tambay and Zaugg incredibly close. Considering that most of the drivers and the teams were at their first experience with the cars, having such a balanced field, with 11 drivers in just 8 tenths, was an unexpected achievement. That's enough to hope for an exciting maiden event, starting from tomorrow at 2PM with the first Free Practice.
