7:58 a.m. - - Session begins under partly cloudy and clearing skies, and temperatures in the low 60s.

8:06 a.m. - - #32 BARRON suffers a broken left front axle and stops in the turn three run-off - car is moved to a safe location before being returned to pit lane.

8:08 a.m. - - #66 TAGLIANI spins exiting turn three and lightly taps the wall (driver’s left) - car suffers light contact damage - car continues after a brief delay and returns to pit lane.

8:14 a.m. - - #7 BINDER makes contact with the turn five tire barrier - car suffers nose and right front wheel and suspension damage - driver out and okay - brings out a FULL COURSE CAUTION.

8:18 a.m. - - GREEN FLAG - 14:32 minutes remain in the session.

8:23 a.m. - - #85 KNAPP loses control in turn 10 and spins tail-end against the outside wall - car suffers rear wing damage and loses power - brings out a FULL COURSE CAUTION - car is pushed by corner workers back to pit lane.

8:29 a.m. - - GREEN FLAG

8:33 a.m. - - CHECKERED FLAG . . . the top three times from Friday’s provisional qualifying session remain unchanged - #9 FRAZIER strikes the apex sign in turn 10 - car suffers front wheel damage - driver is transported to the infield medical center for an examination and observation.

#19 MEMO GIDLEY, of San Rafael, Calif., wins his FIRST CAREER ATLANTIC POLE POSITON in the Lynx Racing-prepared Ralt RT-41 with a fast lap of 1:03.833 - 96.044 mph, which was his recorded time in Friday’s provisional qualifying. #85 STEVE KNAPP, of Salem, Wis., will start on the outside pole in his highest career Atlantic race start at 1:03.988 - 95.811 mph in the P1-NTN Bearings/ Miller Milling Ralt RT-41. #32 ALEX BARRON, of Vista, Calif., will start in third place in the Lynx Racing-Victory Circle/Red Line Oil Ralt RT-41 at 1:04.007 - 95.783 mph.

KNAPP’S previous best qualifying result was fourth at Nazareth.

#6 FRANK ALLERS, of Coquitlam, B.C. wins the C2 pole position after qualifying 23rd overall in the Johnston Engineering-Keen Engineering Reynard 93H. By virtue of winning today’s pole position, GIDLEY earns one valuable bonus point in the drivers championship and closes the gap with series leader BARRON to 27 points, 142-115. The Lynx Racing Ralt RT-41 which qualified on today’s pole is the identical car which has qualified on the front role on multiple occasions during each of the past three consecutive Atlantic seasons. Lynx Racing has qualified a car on the front row in eight of 11 races in 1997, including three pole positions for BARRON and today’s pole with GIDLEY.
