Former Barber Dodge Pro Series race winner Michael Valiante is taking a step closer toward realizing a goal of racing in Formula One. The Vancouver, B.C. native will make his second career Toyota Atlantic start with Lynx Racing in support of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Valiante, who is racing with Lynx in the Atlantic Series as part of a six-race deal competed in the opening race of the season at the Long Beach Grand Prix, placing fourth in his first race start. Racing in front of the teams from the CART FedEx Series was nothing new to Valiante, who had raced before them many times in his two-year stint in Barber Dodge. The opportunity to race before all of the Formula One teams however will be something new and an opportunity he relishes.
"It's just awesome for me to have a chance to race in front of the F1 teams because that's my ultimate goal," says Valiante. "This is the biggest race in Canada, I've never raced here before and this is only my second Atlantic race, so it feels a bit like I'm standing at the center of the stage under a very bright spotlight. But Lynx is one of the best teams in the Atlantic series and has either won or finished on the podium many times here, and with David and me working together I feel comfortable about my ability to have a good race."
Valiante, 21, will be driving the No. 95 Lynx Racing / Italian Motors / Copart Auto Auctions Swift 008.a. looking to uphold a winning tradition for the squad. Lynx Racing has won the Canadian GP round of the Atlantic Series three times in the last six years.
